7 of the Best First and Third-Person Shoot ’em Ups for Android Mobile Devices

Everybody loves a good shoot ‘em up, right? The shoot ‘em up genre is one of the most popular for all gaming formats, including Android smartphones and tablets. This shooting genre has variable subgenres, such as first and third-person shooters. First and third-person shooters are typically multiplayer or single-player games in which players control characters armed to the teeth with all manner of weapons to annihilate whatever enemies get in their way. These are some of the best first and third-person shooters you can play on Android mobile devices.

PUBG: Mobile

PUBG is the definitive battle royale game that took the world by storm on PC, mobile, and consoles when it was released in 2017. This is still the best battle royale gameplay around, thanks to its more tactical and realistic gameplay, irrespective of the increasing number of alternatives that refine the battle royale formula PUBG established. PUBG: Mobile’s superior battle royale map diversity is another thing that sets it apart, as the game includes several maps for players to fight it out on that offer different gameplay experiences.

Call of Duty: Mobile

Call of Duty: Mobile is among the best first and third-person shoot ‘em ups for Android mobiles because of its game mode diversity and excellent graphical quality. If you want to play third-person, check out this game’s 100-player battle royale map. This is a decent battle royale mode with two maps and unique character classes for players.

However, Call of Duty: Mobile is more renowned for its first-person team-based multiplayer modes. This game has the best Team Deathmatch mode of any Android shoot ‘em up (in my opinion), but you can also play Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, Frontline, Kill Confirmed, and Control across various maps. Few other Android shooters match Call of Duty: Mobile’s multiplayer modes for gameplay intensity and variety.

Shadowgun Legends

If you’re looking for a decent single-player and multiplayer shooter combined, look no further than Shadowgun Legends. This game includes quite a big story campaign with hundreds of missions in which you can slog it out against aliens. The solo campaign has a graphical style reminiscent of the Halo games, and Shadowgun Legends is among the more visually impressive Android shooters.

Although Shadowgun Legends is not quite as good for multiplayer as Call of Duty: Mobile, it still offers some fun multiplayer modes. You can go one-on-one in Duel or fight in team-based Ascendency, Elimination, and Capture the Flag modes. Plus, the Shadowgun Legends Hub adds a more social location to the game where you can hang out and chat with gaming buddies.

Doom

Doom is the most influential first-person shooter in gaming history, and you can play it on your Android device. This game defined and set the standard for first-person shooters when ID Software released it in 1993. Bethesda Software released Doom for mobiles to commemorate the 25th anniversary game. This ported version of the game gives a new generation of players a chance to experience Doom’s pulsating (and gory) gun-toting mayhem for a thrilling ‘blast from the past.’

Doom is not freely available like the other shoot ’em-ups recommended here. This game is retailing at $4.99 on Google Play. However, it’s worth stumping up because Doom is also one of the few offline shooters for Android devices. This offline factor makes Doom a genuinely portable shooter game you can take outside to play on your smartphone at the park or beach on sunny days.

Modern Combat 5

Modern Combat 5 is one of the most popular and highly-rated shoot ‘em up for Android mobiles, with an average player rating of 4.5 (out of 5). This is a very customizable shooter in which players can select 10 character classes for different combat styles. Modern Combat 5 boasts console-quality graphics, a single-player campaign, and a good variety of competitive multiplayer modes in which to shoot it out. With eight multiplayer modes, including battle royale, Modern Combat 5 rightly considers itself one of the most complete first-person shoot ’em ups for Android.

Modern Ops: Gun Shooting Games

Modern Ops is a multiplayer FPS game for Android devices that 1.45 million players rate 4.6/5 on Google Play. One player’s review says, “In all honesty, I love this game… If your phone is good with graphics, the gameplay is brilliant.” Although I don’t feel the Modern Ops gameplay quite matches the intensity of Call of Duty: Mobile, this is a decent alternative nonetheless. It features six multiplayer game modes, including classic Team Deathmatch, Point Capture, Free for All, Knives All, Arms Race, and Bomb, for players to enjoy.

Arena Breakout: Realistic FPS

Tencent’s Arena Breakout is a relative newcomer to the Android shooter scene that, with a Google Play rating of 4.3/5, has been well-received by players since 2023. If you’re looking for something slightly different from the more prevalent battle royale and deathmatch shooters, Arena Breakout is worth noting. This is a more tactical shooter game in which the primary objective is to loot, survive, and extract. Overall, Arena Breakout is a game with top-notch graphics and compelling gameplay that offers a refreshing shooter genre change on Android mobile devices.

So, get stuck into those first and third-person shoot ‘em ups for Android mobiles for some top-notch blasting mayhem. If you want some single-player shooting fun, check out Shadowgun Legends, Doom, and Modern Combat 5. Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG: Mobile, Modern Ops, and Arena Breakout are among the most enthralling shooting games for multiplayer blasting action. You can also play all those games on Windows PCs with Android emulators like BlueStacks.
