Where to Find the Witcher 3 Places of Power in Velen and Novigrad

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt base game includes 26 Places of Power from which you can draw magic. Drawing from Place of Power stones strengthens your sign intensity for a limited time. However, much more importantly, each Place of Power gives you an Ability Point when first drawn from. Thus, finding POPs enables you to unlock more abilities in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This is where you can find the Witcher 3 Places of Power in Velen and Novigrad, which are two parts of the same map.

The Place of Power in Novigrad

You can find this Place of Power from directly inside the city of Novigrad. To find it, go to the Elector’s Square signpost in the very northern part of Novigrad. Then, walk to the temple square around the corner from that signpost. Follow a path from there that leads to a Place of Power on the cliffside.

North of the Vegelbud Residence

To reach this Place of Power in the Novigrad area of the map, travel to the Vegelbud Residence signpost. Then, jump on Roach and ride in an almost direct north direction until you reach a high hill (which is almost like a mini mountain). Walk up the high hill to reach the Place of Power at the top to draw from it.

Near Downwarren

This Yrden Place of Power is near the Downwarren signpost in Velen. Travel to that Downwarren signpost and then walk in a slight northwesterly direction from there toward the Place of Power shown on the map directly below. You’ll need to walk along a path up some elevated cliffside landscape (with some jumping and climbing required) to reach this Place of Power and draw from it.

Up Bald Mountain

The best time to find this Place of Power is during the level 26 “Road to Bald Mountain” main story quest, as it can be hard to access beyond that. If you’ve not completed that main story quest, wait until you reach that part of the game to find this POP. You can find it by going to the Road to Bald Mountain signpost and heading up the mountain toward the Place of Power location shown on the map below.

Inside the Elven Ruins Cave

You can find this Yrden Place of Power underground inside the Elven Ruins Cave. To find it, play the optional level 6 “Magic Lamp” quest when you get the chance, which isn’t always available (you must complete it before the level 22 “Isle of Mists” story quest). You can start “Magic Lamp” at the cave entry point circled on the map below after finishing the “Wandering in the Dark” story quest. Speak to Keira Metz to start that quest during which you can reach a Place of Power inside the cave by climbing a few ledges within the shrine room.

I’ve never completed “Magic Lamp” quest and have tried reaching this Place of Power. However, it doesn’t seem possible to access it beyond that quest, even though you can still enter its cave. So, look for “Magic Lamp” on the quest screen to see if you can still play that quest. If not, you might have to forget about this one, but you can still draw from it on a second playthrough.

At Lornruk

This Quen Place of Power on the west side of the Velen map is quite easy to find when you know where to look. To find it, go to the Lornruk travel signpost. Then, walk down to the ground area beneath the bridge, where you’ll find the Place of Power by the water at the location shown directly below.

Near Frischlow

You can find this Place of Power on the far south side of the Velen map, near the Frischlow village. It is almost directly south of the Fyke Isle signpost. If you walk directly south from there, crossing the water with a boat and passing through Frischlow as you go, you’ll eventually reach this Place of Power. You’ll know you’re in the right area when you start traipsing through marshes in the far south of Velen.

Ancient Oak

This Igni Place of Power is on the southern side of Velen near The Orphans of Crookback Bog and Ancient Oak. Ancient Oak is the nearest signpost location from which to reach this. You can find it by walking in an almost exact westerly direction from Ancient Oak to the Place of Power location shown below.

Drawing from those Witcher 3 Places of Power in Velen and Novigrad will give you eight Ability Points. That’s quite a significant number for upgrading Geralt’s signs and combat prowess. You can always return to those Places of Power to draw from them for temporary sign boosts.
