CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 is in the works, but that could still be years away from release. In the meantime, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains the latest game in its series for players to play long after completion. However, Witcher 3 is a sprawling open-world RPG with much for players to do beyond the game’s primary storyline. These are some things to do in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after completing that game.
Complete Remaining Side Quests
Playing through the many side quests in Witcher 3 is the most obvious thing to do in the game after completing it. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is packed to the rafters with side quests, some of which are quite long and extensive. Estimates suggest Witcher 3 offers 150-175 hours of gameplay for players who strife to find and complete all the side quests in the game. Thus, the remaining side quests alone will be enough to keep you busy for some time after completing Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Replay Witcher 3 for a Different Ending
The best thing about Witcher 3 is its replay value. This game has terrific replay value because of its many variable endings. There are about 36 different possible endings players can see by selecting different dialog options and playing through optional side quests they skipped before. If you saved Ciri the first time, make sure you don’t during a second playthrough to see an opposite ending. At the very least, play through Witcher 3 a couple more times with different dialog options selected at key moments to see some of the alternative endings.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also has a New Game + mode that makes playing through the game again all the more appealing. This mode enables you to start a new game with all the weaponry, gold, and abilities from your completed game. However, quest and enemy levels are also scaled up according to your character level.
Play Gwent
Gwent is a turn-based card game you can play against many of the NPCs in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is a fun military strategy card game with variable combat styles and paths to victory. If you didn’t care to play Gwent when playing through Witcher 3’s main story quests, check it out after completing the game. There are also numerous Gwent-based side quests you can play, such as these:
- Gwent: Big City Players
- Gwent: Old Pals
- Gwent: Playing InnkeepsGwent: Velen Players
- Gwent: Playing Thaler
- High Stakes
- A Dangerous Game
- Gwent: Skellige Style
Clear Out Bandit Camps
Bandit camps are locations filled with hostile human foes, such as deserters, thieves, and pirates. The Velen, White Orchard, and Skellige Islands maps are filled with many camps where you can have fun slaughtering bandits. Even though much of the loot in such camps might not be of much value to you after completing the game, clearing out bandit camps is still lots of fun. Nothing beats the thrill of the swashbuckling combat action against human foes in Witcher 3.
Find all the Places of Power
There are 25 Places of Power in the base Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game for you to draw from for 25 ability points. Searching for and finding these Places of Power is a great way to explore the maps of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in more detail. You can still go to places and map areas you’ve never been before when searching for all undiscovered Places of Power.
Turn Geralt into a Killing Machine
The highest character level you can reach in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt base game is 70, but the DLCs extend that to 100. This is well beyond the character level you’ll probably be at after completing Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You can turn Geralt into a killing machine after game completion by leveling him up to the maximum 70, for which a lot more combat and quest completion will be required.
Play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Expansions
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are the two DLC expansion packs you can purchase from Steam or Epic Games. If you don’t have them already, I recommend purchasing at least one to fill the waiting gap for Witcher 4. Both DLCs have great stories, but Blood and Wine is the best because it adds a new Toussaint map for players to explore, along with more additional side quests.
Have Fun With Witcher 3’s Debug Console
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a very cool debug console with which you can activate many useful and fun game cheats by entering codes. You can activate that console before or after completing Witcher 3, but will need to edit a configuration file to do so. These are the steps for activating the debug console:
- Open the Witcher 3/bin/config/base folder in File Explorer.
- Click the general.ini file with the right mouse button and select Open with.
- Select to open the file with Notepad.
- Input DBGConsoleOn=true into the file.
- Press Ctrl + S to save.
- Load a Witcher 3 game and press the ~ key to activate the debug console.
Now you’ve activated the debug console, you can have some fun with it by executing some commands. This commands.gg page includes a big list of commands you can execute with that console. My favorite is the one that enables you to play with Ciri. Input Ciri in the debug console and press Enter to try it out.
Add Mods to Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Witcher 3 has a multitude of mods with which you can customize the game. Try adding some mods to Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after completing the game, as covered in this Retbit guide. Install mods that add new quests and game content to play through. These are some of the mods that add new content to Witcher 3:
- Witcher 3 Quests Extended
- Tales of the Witcher
- The Great Arena
- A Night to Remember
- Ciri’s Sole Memento
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a game that can last for many years if you do the things discussed above after completing it. First, play through all the side quests you can. Then, play the game in New Game+ mode to see some different endings. You can then purchase the DLC expansions for 50+ hours more gameplay. If that’s not enough, add even more content to Witcher 3 with mods.
