Epic rolled out the latest Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 update on February 21, 2025. This season is called Lawless, highlighting its criminal theme. A criminal has taken over Oninoshima after a shockwave that’s coated the map with gold. There are many new things for players to discover in the latest season, with numerous new locations, items, non-player characters, and other features added to the map. These are the most notable new things in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2.
The Chapter 6: Season 2 Story
The backstory for Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 is that Daigo defeated Shogon X, ending the Japanese presence. The defeat of Shogun X caused a massive essence flow that exploded the portal. This explosion triggered a huge spluttering of gold across Oninoshima, attracting gold-hunting thieves to the island. Among them was Fletcher Kane, who defeated all the other thieves to establish a gold monopoly. Kane built a gold mine in the western part of Oninoshima and a chain of banks.
New Locations
When you start playing Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2, you’ll immediately notice the new locations on the western part of the map. A cloud circle highlights the primary area of the map Epic has revamped for Chapter 6: Season 2. These are the four new locations you can check out:
- Outlaw Oasis
- Shiny Shafts
- Crime City
- Lonewolf Lair
Shiny Shafts is the gold mine Fletcher Kane has established in Oninoshima. There, you’ll find a network of mining tunnels dug into the mountain. Players can surf along the mine tracks to move around that location. Plus, there’s a new secret vault to discover there.
Lonewolf Lair is the residence of Fletcher Kane. It’s a large estate with a big multi-floor mansion for players to explore. This location is loaded with loot, so check it out when you can.
Crime City is like a new (albeit unofficial) capital of Oninoshima that is comparable in size to Seaport. This is a city plagued by crime, vandalism, and hooligans. You can battle it out at Wise Guys Bookstore, Launder Mat, and Hostile Hotel in that city.
New Weapons and Utility Items
There are also plenty of new weapons and utility items for players to pick up and utilize during Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 matches. This update introduces a variable variety of several weapons along with four utility items. These are the new weapons and utility items:
- Kane’s Double Down Pistol
- Collateral Damage Assault Rifle
- Outlaw Shotgun
- Kneecapper (baseball bat)
- Sub-Zero’s Combat Kit
- Falcon Eye Sniper
- Pump and Dump
- Gold Splash (utility item)
- Med-Mist Grenade (utility item)
- Port-A-Cover (utility item)
- Pulse Scanner (utility item)
Of the new weapons introduced, the Sub-Zero Combat Kit (a replacement for the vaulted Typhoon Blade) is one of the more exciting. Sub-Zero Combat Kit is a new melee-combat weapon that’s part of the Mortal Kombat collaboration in Chapter 6: Season 2. Those gloves enable you to eliminate opponents with a flurry of Sub Zero martial arts moves. Plus, there’s a new Sub-Zero skin for dedicated players to unlock in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2.
Med-Mist Grenade and Gold Splash are new healing items you can pick up in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2. Gold Splash is a useful healing item that replenishes shield and health and also gives you a temporary running speed boost, which is handy for avoiding the closing storm. The Med-Mist Grenade is a grenade that replenishes health when you stand in its smoke.
The Fletcher Kane Boss
Fletcher Kane is the gold baron of Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 and the new boss you can fight in Oninoshima. You can fight him by busting one of the vaults in Lonewolf Lair, Seaport City, Crime City, and Masked Meadows. Defeating this boss gives you Kane’s Double Down Pistol and Unstoppable Medallion, which increases sprint speed.
Banks and Vaults
Banks and vaults stuffed with loot are a prominent feature of the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 update. There are five vaults for the aforementioned Fletcher Kane boss locations (another is on the train) marked on the map that you can crack open with Thermite. NPCs guarding those vaults shoot at players who try to break into them.
Seaport City and Masked Meadows are locations from Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 1 that include new bank buildings containing vaults. Crime City also has a large bank with a vault to explore. It’s always worth exploring these banks because they’re filled with loot you can tuck into without breaching their vaults. However, blast open their vaults if you want even more!
Safes Stuffed With Gold
Small safes are a new feature you’ll probably discover after playing a few Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 matches. These are accessible locked safes you can open to pick up gold, which is in-game currency. So, keep an eye out for them to amass more gold for purchasing gear from NPCs and vending machines during matches.
Dill Bit Coins and Black Markets
Oninoshima includes numerous Dill Bit coins for players to pick up. These rare coins are like a new currency for Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 matches, but you can’t accumulate them over a season. The best places to find Dit Bits are the banks and vaults.
You can purchase new gear with your Dill Bits at the new Fortnite Black Markets. There are three Black Markets on the map called Blackwoods (in Magic Mosses), Boom Hole (north of Crime City), and Rogue Repairs (northeast of Masked Meadows). These Black Markets are marked on the map with house icons and include cool stuff you can purchase with Dit Bits and gold. They mostly sell weaponry of the mythic and legendary variety, along with utility items.
New Non-Player Characters
The Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2 update has overhauled the non-player character lineup. There are 14 NPCs for you to meet across the map in the new season. These are the NPCs in Fornite Chapter 6: Season 2:
- Cassidy Quinn
- Big Dill
- Skillet
- Jade
- Fishstick
- Joss
- Keisha Cross
- Kendo
- Shadow Blade Hope
- Sub-Zero
- The Night Rose
- The Brat
- Valentina
- Vengeance Jones
Most of those NPCs sell weapons and other utility items to purchase with gold. However, Keisha Cross, Joss, Skillet, and The Brat enable players to open rifts that teleport them into the air for gliding. Players can also hire the Jade (medic), Night Rose (supply), Kendo (scout), and Sub-Zero (scout) NPC specialists to fight alongside them during matches. Plus, there are player skins available for the new Big Dill, Joss, Fletcher Kane, Cassidy, and Sub-Zero NPCs.
Fortnite never goes stale, thanks to its season updates that keep the game fresh and exciting. You can have lots of fun exploring the golden new locations, trying out the new weaponry and items, breaking into vaults, meeting new NPCs, and fighting Fletcher Kane in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 2. Season 2 will probably continue until May 2025, when Epic rolls out the next seasonal instalment. However, some of the locations, items, and features introduced in this update might stay in the game for longer.
