How many people have played Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? Up until now, we didn’t know the answer to that question.
What we did know was that the well-deserved hype and praise surrounding the game had already catalyzed talks for a sequel (per Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly). We also knew that the hype around the MachineGames action-adventure game was positive enough to get the attention of the higher-ups too. “Disney picked up the phone and wants more Indiana Jones,” Windows Central writer and leaker Jez Corden reported back in early January.
There also wasn’t any quantifiable data aside from the fact that The Great Circle was the second-best selling game in its first full release week back in mid-December, behind only Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (per Circana’s Mat Piscatella).
So back to the question. How many people have played Indiana Jones and the Great Circle? Thanks to the latest Microsoft earnings report we now know the answer.
“We saw rave reviews of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which has already been played by more than four million people,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in the company’s second quarter earnings call on Wednesday.
MachineGames is currently working on an Indiana Jones and the Great Circle expansion, entitled Order of the Giants, which is slated for release sometime in 2025, as well as the PS5 version of The Great Circle, which is due to release this spring.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place between the events of the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) films and sees Indy (voiced by Troy Baker) globetrotting to locales such as the Vatican, Egypt, Thailand and China to recover an ancient artifact which is stolen from his museum by a giant named Locus (voiced by the late Tony Todd).
Are you surprised by the fact that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been played by more than 4 million people? Are those numbers impressive despite the game being released on day one on Xbox Game Pass? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
