The lofty praise for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, from both critics and fans alike has been a welcome surprise. Even Harrison Ford himself, who has been adamant in the past regarding his feelings on other individuals playing the character after he steps down (namely, that there shouldn’t be: “Nobody’s gonna be Indiana Jones, why don’t you get it? I am Indiana Jones. When I’m not there, he won’t be either,” he told NBC’s Today back in 2020) has given the game his trademark smirk of approval.
“While you’re on your feet, let’s give a big round of applause to these two guys for The Great Circle,” Ford said, making a surprise appearance at The Game Awards 2024, joining Bethesda boss Todd Howard and The Great Circle Indiana Jones voice actor Troy Baker on stage. “I think this guy [Troy Baker] did a great job. If I’d known he was so good, I would’ve done it myself!” Ford added jokingly.
Such praise hasn’t gone unnoticed by Lucasfilm Games, who believe that there’s a far greater likelihood for more games revolving around the whip-lashing, brown leather jacket and fedora-sporting archaeologist in the future due to the game’s enthusiastic reception thus far.
First things first, however, and that means ensuring that as much effort as possible goes into Indiana Jones and the Great Circle before the developers devise plans for a new game.
“Right now, we’re focused on getting this one to the public and getting to the DLC and making this as successful as we can,” Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly said when asked about the game’s Xbox exclusivity. “I think we’re always looking for great stories. And the good news is, there’s a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.”
Will Indiana Jones and the Great Circle get a sequel? Do you think the game deserves the praise its received thus far? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
