Although the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, released four years ago in 2020, received an enhanced and expanded PS5 version called the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade, which also included DLC material such as playable Yuffie content, the second installment in the trilogy of games remaking the 1997 Playstation classic, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won’t be getting DLC treatment.
“We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,” Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi told The Daily Star.
Instead of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth getting DLC, Hamaguchi says the team will be focusing their efforts on Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series.
“I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.
“So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”
Earlier this year Hamaguchi stated that Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be among the “most loved” in the “history of video games” — a bold claim and one that sets high expectations for the game to be sure, but a claim that might not be as outlandish as it seems given the success and critical acclaim of the first Final Fantasy 7 Remake installment, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
“The development team is hard at work as we speak, and we’re going to make the game something that even beats any expectations that you have towards the game,” Hamaguchi said at an event held at a Final Fantasy 7 Remake exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Hamaguchi added, “I’m absolutely confident that the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series will be one of the most loved, most popular games in the whole history of video games, once again.”
What do you think of the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won’t be getting DLC so that the team can instead get to work on Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
