Stellar Blade is currently a PS5 exclusive, but developer Shift Up hinted that the game might be coming to PC soon in their latest quarterly financial results.
“The release is being considered within 2025,” the developer revealed. “Considering recent trends such as Steam‘s expanding market share in the AAA game sector and the global success of Black Myth: Wukong, we expect the performance on PC to exceed that on consoles.”
Shift Up, which released Stellar Blade in April, attributes much of the title’s continued success to the regular release of content patches and updates, the latest of which will feature a crossover with the popular Nier: Automata series.
“With the addition of the Nier: Automata DLC and ongoing marketing activities, we plan to maintain the IP’s popularity until the platform expansion,” the company continued. Shift Up plans to add the Nier: Automata DLC to Stellar Blade alongside a photo mode next week as part of their latest major update.
Shift Up has gone on record to say that Stellar Blade was inspired by Nier: Automata, with the upcoming collaboration forged out of mutual respect between the respective game directors Kim Hyung Tae and Yoko Taro.
“Nier: Automata significantly inspired Stellar Blade,” Shift Up chief technology officer DongKi Lee explained in an official PlayStation Blog post. “The collaboration between Director Kim Hyung Tae and Director Yoko Taro, marked by mutual respect and creativity, led to this successful outcome.”
Shift Up also revealed some preliminary information on what will be their next big AAA title, an action RPG game entitled Project Witches, which is expected to release sometime in 2027.
“We are currently developing Project Witches with the goal of launching it after 2027,” the company said. “We are considering communicating with users and the market in the first half of next year to share specific details about Project Witches.”
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
