There is no Fortnite. There is only Doom!
Or at least, that’s what Doctor Doom, the new main antagonist for Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4, which goes live on Friday, August 14th would have you believe as the Battle Royale island has been overtaken by the diabolical, Latverian dictator as he harnesses the power of the Pandora’s Box. New points of interest include Doctor Doom’s domain, Castle Doom, whose metal forge glows molten red as Doom grows ever closer to completing a powerful new armor; Doomstadt, a seemingly peaceful village which Doom is certainly surveilling in some unforeseen fashion; and The Raft, a high-tech, super maximum security prison facility designed for harboring supervillains — ones who Doom will likely look to sway to his side.
Though Doom’s dominion over the Battle Royale island seems daunting, luckily, there will be resistance in the form of the Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 Battle Pass skins, the majority of which are Marvel superheroes such as War Machine and Gwenpool or superheroes with a Fortnite-twist, like Peelverine and Captain Jones.
Here’s a look at the Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 Battle Pass skins in order:
Gwenpool
“I played the Galactus Event. That makes me an Avenger, right?”
Gwenpool will be unlocked right away and be the first skin in the Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 Battle Pass. In the Marvel comicbooks, she’s an amalgam of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool, though the biggest similarities she bears to the latter aren’t his regenerative healing factor and fighting ability but his ability to break the 4th wall — only Gwenpool takes it a step further.
Gwendolyn Poole
Gwendolyn Poole is a teenager from the real world who ended up in the Marvel Universe; because she’s an avid comic book reader, she knows all the storylines, the heroes, villains and their secret identities as well. At one point, Gwenpool’s meta powers develop to the point where she can see the edges of the panels of the comic book which she inhabits and sometimes break the fourth wall and then some by jumping from page to page.
War Machine
Ace pilot, military veteran, and trusted armored ally of Tony Stark.
War Machine is a variant armor of Iron Man piloted by his close friend and US Air Force pilot extraordinaire, James Rhodes. Players will be able to equip War Machine’s Arsenal in Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4, which includes his Auto Turret and Hover Jets.
Iron Patriot
Rhodes later rebrands as Iron Patriot when the US Military requests that he use the modified Iron Man armor. In the comic books, the Iron Patriot armor is originally used by the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, during the Dark Reign storyline. In the Dark Reign storyline, Norman Osborn comes into power in the Marvel Universe along with a number of other supervillains under his employ who pose as the Avengers.
Peelverine
Nanamantium-infused skeleton with a ripen-eration mutant ability.
We don’t care what anyone says: Nanamantium is pretty damn funny. Also, what happens if Nanamantium claws collide with Captain America’s vibranium shield? What about if they collide with Wolverine’s adamantium claws?
X-Force Peelverine
In the comics, X-Force is a special strikeforce which is at one point led by Wolverine. The team consists of X-23, Warpath, Caliban, Wolfsbane, Hepzibah, and later on, Archangel and Deadpool.
In Fortnite, X-Force Peelverine looks kind of like X-Force’s Wolverine with the grey and black suit motif and red eyes.
Emma Frost
A devious and brilliant mutant psychic with an unbreakable will.
In the X-Men movies and comics, Emma Frost, AKA The White Queen of the Hellfire Club is one of the world’s most powerful psychics and usually a supervillain that aligns herself with evil mutants.
Organic Diamond Frost
Emma Frost also has the mutant ability to transform into a diamond-coated form, which gives her myriad new abilities and diamond-like properties such as extremely heightened durability, resistance to extreme temperatures and poisons, enhanced speed and strength and additional mass. The only drawback in diamond form is that Emma’s considerable telepathic powers are suppressed.
Captain Jonesy
Take up the shield of justice.
Captain America and Jonesy combined? I understood that reference.
Stealth Captain Jonesy
Captain America’s shield, which was originally available in Season 8, will be unvaulted in Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 with updated abilities.
Mysterio
An inventive supervillain with illusions of grandeur.
Mysterio, real name Quentin Beck, is portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the comic books he’s a former special effects artist, stuntman and illusionist who turns to a life of crime. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s a former employee of Stark Industries who created a holographic emitter; after a patent dispute with Tony Stark, he turns to a life of crime and vows revenge on Stark as well.
Supernatural Mysterio
Shuri
The genius Princess of Wakanda and current Black Panther.
Shuri, T’Challa’s sister had big vibranium claws to fill, but she did so with aplomb and then some in the sequel to Black Panther, 2022’s Wakanda Forever. The film was also the biggest female-led superhero film ever in the US, grossing nearly $454 million domestically.
Black Panther
It’s likely that Doctor Doom, the focal point of the Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 “Absolute Doom” theme will be the mid-season unlockable character, much like Magneto was for the previous season.
What did you think of the full list of Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 Battle Pass skins? Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
