Unless you’ve been living under a Digtoise for the past few weeks, you’ve likely heard about Palworld, Pocketpair’s insanely popular new game (the game has beaten the record for concurrent players on Steam for every game except PUBG: Battlegrounds) featuring a menagerie of colorful beasts who kinda look like Pokemon.
That being said, despite Palworld‘s already rabid success, the game is still in its very early stages and already questions such as “Will Palworld have PvP?” and “Will Palworld be crossplay?” and “Will Palworld have raid bosses?” have already started gathering steam.
Pocketpair shared their Early Access Road Map on Wednesday morning, thought the developers made it clear that the will prioritize addressing critical issues with the game before they implement any future updates with new content.
“We would like to share with you our roadmap for Palworld,” the Twitter/X post reads. “Sales have far exceeded the development team’s expectations, and we are currently experiencing many problems due to excessive access congestion, among other challenges.
“We will prioritize improving this issue first, and then move on to implementing new in-game features. Thank you for your understanding.”
Pocketpair noted that changes they’ll be implementing immediately include key configuration improvements as well as improvements to base Pal AI and pathing but after that there will be planned future updates which will include PvP, Raid Bosses (End-Game Content), Pal Arena (PvP for Pals), Steam-Xbox Crossplay, various Xbox feature improvements, server transfers and migrations, improvements to the building system, and new islands, Pals, Bosses, and technologies.
Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe noted that instituting PvP in Palworld would prove difficult.
“PvP is really difficult. First of all, we need to think about why we are introducing PvP to Palworld,” Mizobe admitted in an interview with Automaton.
“To begin with, there are many other games that offer a fun PvP experience, so we need to make sure that there is a reason for Palworld players to play PvP. Of course, using Pals you caught in battle is one unique point, but only games that give players a good reason to play can survive in the long term. In this sense, I think it’s a very harsh territory. This is why PocketPair is not very optimistic about PvP. I said earlier that we have created a great game, but with PvP games, you can’t know if you’ve failed or succeeded until the very end. I think that our chances of success are below 10%. That’s how high the hurdle is to succeed in PvP.”
Are you looking forward to Palworld to add PvP, crossplay, new Pals and building improvements in future updates? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
