Voice actor Yuri Lowenthal wants Deadpool in Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 2 may have only released three days ago on October 20th but already the game has web-slung its way into history as the fastest-selling Playstation Studios game in history with over 2.5 million copies sold in its first 24 hours (beating out previous record-holder, God of War Ragnarok). With such huge success straight from the jump, the Insomniac Games sequel starring both the Peter Parker version of Spider-Man and the Miles Morales version has already fueled speculation on a third installment in the series. Which characters would fit into Spider-Man 3 on top of an already character-rich game including the likes of Miles Morales, Venom and Black Cat?

What about Wolverine, another character starring in his very own Insomniac title sometime in 2023?

According to Spider-Man 2 voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker/Spider-Man himself, his choice is another wise-cracking masked character: none other than the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool.

“I mean, there are so many ways they could go with a third game,” Lowenthal said in an interview with the The Movie Dweeb podcast.

Lowenthal continued, “I’m assuming, at this point nobody’s had me sign a contract for a third game, but I’m assuming there will be a third game. Look, here’s something I’ve been pitching for a long time, and I don’t know if they’re going to do it, but I love the Spidey-Pool relationship. I love Deadpool and Spider-Man. As much as I talk about Moon Knight in this universe, and Bryan Intihar is tired of me talking about that, I’ve been hard-pitching, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if Nolan North and I got to play in that?’ And so I would love to see that. I’d love to see Deadpool and Spidey in this. Is it going to happen? Probably not. Do they listen to me? Mostly not. But that is a relationship I would love to see explored in games.”

Spider-Man and Deadpool have had a funny bromance in the comic books, with Spider-Man’s humorous personality playing well off of Deadpool’s even crazier sense of humor and demeanor. How would Deadpool in Spider-Man 3 fit into the game’s storyline? Would Deadpool be hired to assassinate Spider-Man or Miles Morales? Would the three eventually team-up against the likes of Venom, Carnage, Kraven the Hunter or Tombstone? Let us know what you think about Deadpool in Spider-Man 3 in the comments.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
