Vampire Survivors is one of the biggest sleeper hits of the past few years, so naturally a sequel to the survival-based, bullet-hell roguelite would be the next logical step in the game’s progression, right? Not necessarily, says Luca “poncle” Galante, sole developer of the hit game.
“With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?” Galante said in a sit-down with GameSpot. “I think that if we make a sequel or a spiritual successor, then we should offer something radically new.”
The most considerable new content to which Galante refers is the Legacy of the Moonspell DLC, which added eight new characters, 13 new weapons and a brand-new stage called Mt. Moonspell, which was 25 times bigger than any previous level in the game.
Poncle asserted with the release of Legacy of the Moonspell DLC that key features of any future Vampire Survivors updates would always be free, including new characters, weapons and stages.
Even though Vampire Survivors 2 isn’t planned unless it offers something drastically new from the first game, that doesn’t rule it out altogether. Would you like to see a Vampire Survivors 2? What sort of “radically new” premise do you think would work well in a potential Vampire Survivors 2 game?
Vampire Survivors is now available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and mobile platforms.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
