Back in July we revealed that Far Cry 6‘s release date would be sometime in 2021, and according to a posting which went up Thursday morning on the Microsoft Store, that exact date will be May 25th, 2021. The listing is still live as of the time of this writing, but we’ve provided a screenshot just in case Microsoft/Ubisoft decide that the information is too valuable for our mere mortal minds to comprehend at the moment.
Ubisoft has yet to confirm this release date for their upcoming first-person-shooter, although the Microsoft Store has been known for leaks (that end up being accurate) such as this one in the past. The post also lists the Far Cry 6 file size as 50.01 GB on the Xbox One; the game will also support 4K, 60 FPS, and HDR on the Xbox Series X and similar enhancements on the Xbox Series S.
Far Cry 6 will take place on the tropical paradise setting of Yara, an island presided over by “El Presidente” Anton Castillo (played by Giancarlo Esposito), who seeks to restore the island back to its former glory by any means necessary. Castillo is also imparting his dictatorial knowledge upon his young son Diego as a bloody revolution rises in the wake of the oppression which Anton has inflicted upon Yara’s inhabitants. Players will assume the role of Dani Rojas, a freedom fighter who wishes to liberate Yara from Anton’s clutches.
The official description from Microsoft’s Far Cry 6 page reveals more concerning the game’s premise and what players will be able to do, including fighting against Anton’s forces across different locales on the island, including the city’s capital, Esperanza.
- FIGHT FOR FREEDOM: Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran and become a guerrilla fighter to liberate the nation.
- YARA TORN APART: Fight against Anton’s troops in the largest Far Cry playground to date across jungles, beaches and Esperanza the capital city of Yara.
- GUERRILLA FIREPOWER: Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground.
What do you think of the Far Cry 6 release date and file size leak? The game will be available on May 25th for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC platforms.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
