Not long after EA Sports announced they’d be delaying their Madden NFL 21 broadcast in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, Sony has released a similar statement regarding their Playstation 5 digital showcase originally scheduled for June 4th.

The full statement from the official Playstation Twitter:
We have decided to postpone the Playstation 5 event scheduled for June 4.
While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.
Sony also tweeted a separate announcement, this one further reinforcing their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Being silent about the violence and racism Black people experience is being complicit,” the tweet says. “We stand in solidarity today and every day with the Black community. #BlackLivesMatter.”
“But actions always speak louder than words,” the tweet continued. “And we’re working hard to make sure we at Sony are doing more than just stating we are allies. Right now, we want to use our platform to spread information & support. Please send links, resources, or other helpful information our way, and we’ll share them. When we all know more, we can do more.”
It appears Sony, or whoever is handling their social media accounts isn’t just spewing empty rhetoric in an attempt to look good either — or at least, that isn’t their primary concern. The Sony Twitter account could be seen replying to individual tweets which were insensitive in their disagreement.
When a Twitter user responded with “All lives matter,” Sony replied, “All lives will not matter until black lives matter. If all lives mattered, you’d be okay to say ‘Black lives matter.’ Our products can be replaced. Can lives?”

At this time, there has been no rain date scheduled for the Playstation 5 digital showcase.
What do you think of Sony and the official Playstation’s announcements regarding the digital showcase delay? Playstation 5 is expected to release in the “holiday 2020” season.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
